Default 2 Important Ranger questions for me....

I have 2 Questions regarding my ranger i have recently made for Role playing.

1) Which would be the best Upgrades to put on my bow....I.E. 20/20 Bowstring or 33% Poison duration. I'm sure that the +30 hp and 15^50 are a def but as i said i am not so sure about which bowstring to use.

2) Which runes + Insignias would you recommend for my ranger would you go for more energy or more health or just general attribute raising such as marksmanship etc?... Or maybe even some of each to even it out.

Thanks

It kinda depend what bow type you have.
Sundering mod is bad for most bow except hornbow.

Im guessing this will be moved.

1) If you are using apply poison, poison tip signet or poison arrow I would definately use a poison duration string over a 20/20 string. Rangers arent really suited for damage dealing and the extended duration will allow you to spread poison to many targets without having to reapply.

2) In high end areas you will probably need more health than energy, you have expertise to deal with any energy problems you might have. Therefore, id recommend runes of vitae and such to boost your health, and minor runes of marksmanship, expertise wilderness survival etc, over sup runes. But thats just personal preference, it depends how you play.

It depends on what you're doing and the build. For example, if you are using barrage, a zealous string is the way to go. If you are doing conditions such as poison, you'd want a poison string or what ever string to match the condition. There are many builds and ways to outfit your bow and reading the ranger section here on guru would be a good start. Another would be to go here.

well, 20/20 bowsting is one of worst ... you really want to have wide varierty of bows one for each element and condition you cause.

I generally use either condition lengthing mods or vampiric with a +30 hp on my bows. I also use all survivor insignia but that's only because I can't be bothered switching armour for PvE and PvP

1. Use vampiric if you just want to add damage. Use zealous for energy management, IF you are using multi-arrow skills and/or IAS in your build. Use condition-lengthening mods only if you really, really care about the condition (dazed is the only one I'd ever really care that much for in PvE) and you're not already reapplying it before it expires. You have 4 weapon sets, I suggest you bring several bows.

1.5. +30hp is generally slightly inferior to +5 armor for most of PvE.

2. Runes/Insignias are all about trading off between more life and more performance. Since they are mid armor and long range, rangers can get away with a lot of lower-life/higher-performance rune combinations that other classes can't. If you wanted, you really could run full radiant and 2 sup runes in NM PvE and the monsters would not be able to punish you for doing it. So, it's kinda up to you. I would suggest radiant insignias, sup vigor, sup marksmanship, minors for other attributes you use, and vitae wherever there's spare space. But you can run even less life than that without suffering much for it, and you can run less energy/attributes without losing too much performance for it.

Run minor runes. +75 health is more useful than the four extra points of damage you'd get on each barrage. Assuming that you'll not be a target is a bad plan.

Personally I my self am a fan of zealous, for the fact that even with expertise my energy is near limitless. But Also I always carry a wide variety of bows on hand, so switching out is easy enough.

As for your runes/insignias IMO it all depends on how you want your ranger to be ran. Also what build your running. I have a total of four mask. One mask per attribute, and I just flip them as needed.

It depends upon how you plan to attack. If you want to target a foe, poison it, then target another foe, poison it, then another, etc., the 33% longer poison would be of some use. (but you'll spend way too much time switching from foe to foe.)
If you just intend to concentrate on one foe at a time, 33% longer poison won't do much because you'll be poisoning them again before it runs out anyway.

This depends upon a number of things, such as your level of expertise (which lowers energy requirement), what bow you use (firing rate) etc.. You want to ensure you have enough energy to maintain the skills and firing rate you want to use. It's always good to have at least a Minor Marksmanship and Minor Expertise, (and minor Beast Mastery if you use a pet) and, of course, at least Major Vigor. A good mix is to put Survivor insignias on your head, hands and feet, and put Radiants on your chest and legs.

P.s. - ignore most advice about whether you should use zealous or vampiric or sundering (w/e), and that "rangers don't do damage" - that's all just urban myths, or peoples un-tested preferences. Every type of string has it pro&cons, but a discussion of them would just highjack the thread.

1. If you're switching targets, then Poison bowstring is better. But if you're applying pressure on an individual (say a monk), then I would go 20/20.

2. I actually prefer Radiant over Survivor. Ranger has great survivability as it is so the little extra bonus in health doesn't seem to be as useful as more energy unless you're stocking up on say 14 Expertise or so. Even then either is a fair choice.
